Looking back at 2020

My chosen word of the year

I think we all have a story to tell, how 2020 was mean to us both mentally and financially and to some physically. When I weigh up my year and what this has meant to me the one word that comes to my mind for me is REST.

For every year for the past 11 years my time has been somewhat BUSY!! I’ve juggled my business, a job working for a large corporate company, my family and also caring for my mum who had dementia. I had to also juggle finding time with friends which I saw some so called friends depart from my life as I simply didn’t have the time for them, needless to say their patience with me wore thin.

I’m grateful for those who stuck by me, who understood my crazy schedule and brought me endless Starbucks to keep me sane.

So considering 2020 was so quiet it gave me time to evaluate my life, what’s important and to down tools out of no choice of my own. I rested, I thought (way too much thinking time) and I enjoyed spending time with my family, within rules of course.

The “I Do’s”

Throughout the year my diary has never seen so much usage and this wasn’t much fun.

I saw my wonderful clients having to postpone their dream wedding to a new date in the future, little did we know this shit storm would still be happening over Christmas. Some weddings have been postponed 4 times, I can’t even begin to imagine how they have felt.

But, I have been fortunate to be a part of a handful of weddings in 2020, a few weddings at the beginning of the year prior lockdown and a few micro weddings which have been intimate, relaxed and beautiful.

Awards

I was lucky to win 3 Weddison photography awards in 2020 for my wedding photography, something I’m rather proud of.

Keeping Busy

Apart from wedding’s I’ve been fortunate to have other work come my way. Particularly branding shoots for small business owners wanting to improve their headshots for their websites and social media. Working closely with their brand colours and style we created a photoshoot plan which ties in with their style.

Brand new studio

I took the leap of faith and decided it was now or never to open my own photography studio. It’s mainly for my boudoir clients as I wanted somewhere I didn’t have restrictions like I did using hotels. What this also allows me to do is have family sessions and other types of photography work too. It’s based in Peterborough just off the A1 ad has lots of lovely light. I love my new space and am pretty excited about the future here.

It’s been a very strange year for most and I can only try and be optimistic about the future and hope to see you very soon either inside or outside the studio.

All the best
