Pre-Wedding Session Guide: What to Expect, How to Prepare & What to Wear
Congrats on booking your pre-wedding session! This is such a great opportunity to ease into the idea of being in front of the camera before your big day. Our time together will be relaxed, fun, and stress-free, with no pressure—just you two, having a laugh, and creating some beautiful memories along the way.
What to Expect
The session will last around 40 minutes and we’ll keep things casual. Expect a walk through the woods or a countryside setting—perfect for capturing some relaxed and natural photos. If you’d prefer something closer to my studio, we can use the wild grass area out back for a stunning sunset backdrop.
Throughout the session, I’ll take candid shots while you chat and enjoy each other’s company, plus I’ll ask a few questions about your wedding plans. This is the perfect chance for us to connect, making sure you’re feeling as comfortable and relaxed as possible in front of the camera.
The focus is on capturing real moments—don’t be surprised if I crack a joke or two to get you both laughing! The more at ease you feel, the more genuine and natural your photos will be.
Posing? Let’s Keep it Subtle
I get it—posing can feel a little awkward. But trust me, getting those natural-looking photos often means a little guidance from me. It’s not about stiff poses; it's about gentle direction.
For example, I might ask you to walk towards the light or squeeze each other’s hands as you go. Or I might suggest standing close together, just letting your arms fall naturally. I might even ask you to pause for a moment and take in the surroundings. The aim is to keep it as natural as possible, with just a little nudge here and there to help things look perfect on camera. The result? A relaxed, effortless vibe that feels totally "you."
What to Wear
I want you to feel comfortable and confident, so wear whatever makes you feel like yourself. Whether it’s a casual outfit you’re comfortable in, a stylish dress, or something quirky that speaks to your personality—I’m all for it! This is your session and your memories, so go for whatever feels right.
That being said, if you’d like your photos to have a certain vibe, it’s worth considering the setting. For a woodland or countryside shoot, earthy tones, soft neutrals, or pastels complement the surroundings beautifully. Bold, vibrant outfits are welcome too—just keep in mind that patterns can sometimes draw attention away from your faces. If you’re not sure, feel free to ask!
Footwear: Since we’ll be walking, comfort is key. A pair of boots, stylish trainers, or flats are perfect for the terrain. If you’re aiming for something more formal, like heels, that’s great—but be mindful of the setting and terrain, especially if we're venturing into woodlands or fields.
Can I Bring My Dog (Or Cat)?
Absolutely! If your pet is a special part of your life, feel free to bring them along. Whether it’s your dog, cat, or even a guinea pig, I’d be happy to include them in the session. Pets bring out genuine moments and lots of fun, so let me know in advance, and we’ll make sure to capture some lovely moments with them.
Final Tips for the Day
Hydrate & Be Comfortable: Drink plenty of water before the session, especially if the weather is warm. Make sure you’re feeling relaxed and comfortable—this session is all about having fun and feeling at ease in front of the camera.
Wedding Chat: We’ll also chat a little about your wedding day. I’d love to hear all about your plans and ideas. This helps me get a feel for what you’re looking for in your wedding photos too!
Let Your Hair Down: It’s normal to feel a bit nervous, but remember this is a practice run for your wedding day photos. The more relaxed you are, the more natural your photos will be. Just enjoy each other’s company and let me guide you through the session!
Bring Any Special Props: If there’s something personal you’d like to incorporate—maybe a book, an item from your wedding, or even a bottle of bubbly—feel free to bring it along. It’ll make the session even more meaningful!
I’m really looking forward to our session together! It’s such a great chance to get comfortable in front of the camera, and I can’t wait to capture some fun, natural moments. If you have any questions or want to chat before the session, don’t hesitate to get in touch—I’m always here to help!
If a pre-wedding session isn’t included in your package but you'd love to add one, feel free to get in touch with me here—I'd be excited to capture some relaxed, beautiful moments before your big day!
